Here are some of my images from college.

I have been lucky enough to returned to education as a mature student to study fabric design. In the past have made my own clothes, knitted garments and altered clothes to make them up to date or look different. Always taken an interest in fashion, fabric and the construction of garments. Also attended a jewellery design and making course working in silver and gold and still wearing some of my pieces today but gave most of them away as presents ! Spent alot of time restoring old furniture for my home instead of buying new and had some unique stuff !!

Whitworth Art Gallery

The Whitworth Gallery.

Visited the Whitwoth Gallery  and saw the the talented John Piper.
In this exhibition some of John Piper's painting's may never be seen again
as some of his paintings are privately owned. So I felt very privileged to view
his paintings at the Whitworth Gallery. John Piper's work went out of fashion few years ago so it's nice to see that his work is appreciate again.

"Foliate Heads" by John Piper.

"Foliate Heads" was based on motifs that John Piper had been studying in mediaeval Sculpture, it is one of the designs that Piper repeatedly returned to. In 1953 he selected the design to submit to the "Painting into Textiles" exhibition at the ICA and it was  subsequently produced in Rawtenstall, Lancashire by David Whitehead Ltd. In the 1980s Helen Feiler, inspired by Pipers fabrics whilst housesitting for him, pursued the translation of this design it wallpaper and lampshades.

Another well-known artist is Richard Long of his known for his sculptures in quarried stone. His sculptures are often built in to the landscape. In the exhibition he had two sculptures one called White Onyx Line ( 1990) and the Tideless Stones ( 2008). The White Onyx Line is quarried with the most beautiful stone. Some of the stone reminded me of Parmesan cheese the colour and the texture, I love this sculpture. Unfortunately I couldn't find a photograph of this particular sculpture.

Also at the Whitworth Gallery was some screen printed silk headscarves on display by Zika Ascher Which I had previously blogged in my artist research.

The headscarf designs were produced by well-known artists such as Henry Moore and Matisse.
I was so delighted to see these headscarf's that I had researched of  Zika Ascher and never expected to see them in exhibition in Manchester!
