On the 22rd March we caught a train to go to Newcastle and we should have known things were not going to run smooth when our train was delayed by a tree that had fallen across the rails and we had to wait an hour until the tracks were cleared. The weather forecast was snow, ice and wind.
So, on the day that had one of the worst weather forecasts of the year, we set off on a ferry to Amsterdam.
This photograph as we are leaving Newcastle and as you can see the sea is a bit wild !! |
A lot of sea...... |
..... the waves are thrashing. |
The boat is rolling, the stag parties are starting.... |
and everybody's drinking and having fun, the hen parties are ... laughing and dancing ........... and the waves are rolling and the boat's a rocking and the sick bags are starting to appear. |
The ferry journey should have taken 16 hours, instead it took 30 hours so all the passengers were stranded on the on the ferry. And the mood that evening had changed as you will see.
Very few people around and those who are…
….Not happy.
Well, the next time I go to Amsterdam I will fly as I don't want to risk being stuck on a ferry for 30 hours and having to take seasick pills to stop being ill. I just wanted to share the horror of this journey and also the interesting shapes and movement of the waves which are quite beautiful if the boat was not moving as much. On top of all this, I missed Mr Stitch lecture which I believe was excellent and interesting. you can't win them all !!!!
