Here are some of my images from college.

I have been lucky enough to returned to education as a mature student to study fabric design. In the past have made my own clothes, knitted garments and altered clothes to make them up to date or look different. Always taken an interest in fashion, fabric and the construction of garments. Also attended a jewellery design and making course working in silver and gold and still wearing some of my pieces today but gave most of them away as presents ! Spent alot of time restoring old furniture for my home instead of buying new and had some unique stuff !!

My Journey in Embroidery

My journey is about travelling on trains what I see along the way to MMU. The trains, stations, bridges, platforms, rails, stairways, signs, timetables, maps and tickets. I use photographs
to capture the shapes and objects. I draw these shapes and use collage, fabric, stitch and drawings
to convey my journey.

The drawing below is from the shape of the posts in this photograph.

Abstract drawing in my sketchbook.

This is a map I have drawn into of the Manchester train stations.

Stitched map of train stations using the embroidery foot.

This is a train map of Manchester stations cut in half and joined
together using the insertion stitch. Then stitched on to the fabric
with a running stitch. The fabric has been cut and joined the same
as above.

A fabric collage machined stitched to go with my theme in the
above drawing of wheels.

Photograph taken at Oxford Road station Manchester.

A drawing of the shapes in the above photograph and other images
taken from other photographs.

A bridge before Bolton stop.

This is my machine stitched square on the same theme as the photographs

A bridge over the railway at Bolton.

Using old train tickets and receipts I collaged the image
and drew the train motif. This is in my sketchbook.

A spiral staircase at Oxford Road.

A abstract drawing of the spiral stairs.

The Origin's sample twisted to suggest a spiral
staircase.

Modern building as seen from the platform
at Oxford Road Station.

My model of the building using my lolly stick
creation.

Signal lights at Oxford Road.

Abstract drawing of the signal lights.

The train lines.

My interperation of the rails in collage and machine stitch.

Train in Lancaster station full of passengers on their
way to scotland.

My machine stitched square of passengers in a train.

The edge of the train platform in Lancaster.

My collage of the suface above using the embellisher and
tailer tack foot. I think it is a good resemble of the photograph.

I have tried to show the work I have create from my photographs and collected items. This has been my journey so far.
